Holy wow.
Matt and Emily are one of those couples that everyone just loves to be around. Hilarious, laid back and obviously smitten, these guys make flying by the seats of their pants look not only effortless, but fun. Like this was Plan A all along.
Allow me to explain.
Emily and Matt - like so many other 2020 wedding couples - found their big day in the crosshairs of the ‘rona. Realizing that their original plans didn’t align with Chicago’s safety ordinances, they went back to the drawing board and came up with a plan that was so original, so laid back, so joyful, so them.
In a nutshell, it was absolutely perfect.
One thing that was clearly non-negotiable for the bride was looking gorgeous. She and her very closest friends had a sleepover the night before the “I do’s” and they all helped her pull off her effortlessly stunning bridal look.
After capturing her final moments as a “single” lady, we rocketed downtown to meet her groom at the Chicago City Hall. What made their civil union super unique was the fact that they exchanged vows, rings and their first kiss outside the building in front of their loved ones, near and far, who all zoomed in to help them celebrate this massive milestone. It allowed for an intimacy and personalization that just isn’t possible inside that cold marble building.
After exchanging their “I do’s” inside again, this time in front of a Judge, we hopped around the city for a bit taking fabulous photos at some of Chicago’s most gorgeous locations (I’m looking at you Chicago Board of Trade Buidling and the Riverwalk) before heading to the lakefront to meet a small crew ready to party down with the newlyweds over a picnic lunch (that included champagne and wedding cake, of course).
Perhaps more than any other wedding I’ve been lucky enough to shoot during this crazy 2020 season, Emily and Matt’s wedding day truly stripped down all of the lovely but - let’s be honest - silly wedding “stuff” that often totally overshadows the wedding experience and honed in on the whole point of the darn thing: to make beautiful promises to each other in front of the people who love you most. And the celebrate, of course.
